The cameraman only got about 40% of this mammoth show, which lasted somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 hours. In the past, I had read somewhere that this was the band's longest show ever, but a lot of the Train Of Thought Tour shows were long, so it's hard to say. Late in the setlist, Dream Theater covered the Yes song, Heart Of The Sunrise, which you can find on my channel as an audio only item:

great moments from a great era of the band!!! a formation that I will miss seeing live, I can't lie to you, I love Mike Mangini's way of playing with the band... but well, the band continues and our family friend Mr. Mike Portnoy returned and we will be there once again supporting the band like I did all my life so here I go 40th anniversary tour!!! a big hug from argentina my friend thaks for videos!!!! . dany

Not a big fan of modern DT but this tour was actually quite good. Labrie sounded pretty good and they played some good stuff like the Awake set

Thanks for sharing! I quite like that tour, since they played a bunch of Awake stuff. LaBrie was also quite good on that tour, but his voice at the end of that was really "tired"
I do want to post a full-length video from Paris on this tour, hopefully by the end of the summer. It got delayed because I learned about an audio recording of the show that's strangely been circulating mainly in Japan. I need to get my hands on that, to see if it's an improvement over what's already in the video.

@@TheDarkEternalKnight07 *If* the audio is good quality, yes. It's gotten to the point where most of the audience-shot videos I post have the audio replaced with a different source. Video cameras - even modern ones - tend not to have good sound quality, and there's also the problem of audio dropping out between DVD chapters.

I saw this tour in Seattle. It was good. Took lots of pics and met the band by the tour bus in the alley. There's a shitty bootleg from that show. I'm hoping for a better quality one some day lol
You're talking about the Moore Theatre, right? I forgot that I may have a DVD of that show.
I absolutely love this jam by JM, wished he had more opportunities to shine like this in DT. Every now and then I practice some of those exercises from this VHS,
I was there ! Mixed feelings about this gig due to several segments there to accomodate Mangini (acoustic section and drum solo for instance). Also bizarre they chose 6:00 as a 1st Portnoy era song to drop with such a strong Portnoy footprint. If I remember well Periphery opened for it which didn’t help me having fond memories of it ..
That's an example of actually being too hard on the band, and making assumptions. We do not know that including Silent Man and Beneath The Surface in the set was "to accommodate Mangini," and with Mangini's drumming abilities being what they are, it makes perfect sense to let him solo. 6:00 is primarily the creation of Kevin Moore, so by your logic, should songs that were Moore's babies have been avoided after he quit?

@@DTArchive I think the band should have followed Mike's advice by taking a break, I've always thought that since 2010
Minnemann would have been terrific however he admitted he had no specific fandom with their catalogue which surely didn’t help getting the gig and may have meant him being a stronger personality to manage down the line. Anyway .. it’s history now !
@@edpen8666My choice would have been for Virgil. He's a phenomenal drummer and songwriter, and he played in a Dream Theater tribute band at one point. I'm willing to bet that Mangini was chosen partially for his agreeability (not to say that he isn't a phenomenal drummer in his own right). Petrucci and Rudess wanted to exert more control over things, including the writing and recording of the drum parts.
